A Comprehensive Approach to Leveraging LinkedIn for Business Growth

In today's increasingly digital world, buyers are doing their research long before ever speaking to a salesperson. This makes your presence on LinkedIn not just nice to have, but essential. Remember, nearly 77% of B2B buyers won’t talk to a salesperson until after they’ve conducted independent research. Your social media, and more specifically LinkedIn, is where this research begins. The message is clear: personal brand beats company brand every day when establishing know, like, and trust.

Your Action Plan for LinkedIn Success

This isn't just about random posting or hoping content sticks. It's about intentional, strategic actions that build your credibility and trust with potential clients. Let's jump right into the six actions you can start today to boost your LinkedIn presence.

Step 1: Profile Optimization

Think of your LinkedIn profile as your digital brochure. Your profile needs to speak directly to your ideal client, addressing their problems and how you solve them. This means having a professional and warm photo, and a well-crafted profile that evolves with your experience.

Action Item: Rewrite your profile to talk about the problems you solve for your ideal clients and the results you get for them. Use keywords and phrases that potential clients would search for.

Step 2: Daily Engagement

Stop just scrolling and start engaging! Block off time each day--whether it's with your morning coffee or in the evening after dinner--to get on LinkedIn and meaningfully engage with content.

Action Item: Get on LinkedIn daily and engage. Follow your ideal clients, industry publications, and thought leaders. Add value to the conversation.

Step 3: Start Posting

Transform from a consumer into a creator. Start by sharing your insights on industry articles and gradually move into creating your own content. FAQs, tips and tricks, and client success stories are great starting points.

Action Item: If you’re unsure where to begin, start by sharing content from thought leaders and add your own commentary. Then, evolve into creating your own content.

Step 4: Content That Works

Different types of content perform differently on LinkedIn. Authentic photos and videos tend to drive the most engagement.

Action Item: Pick a content type that you are comfortable with and start posting. Whether it’s a text post, a photo, or a video, begin with what doesn’t freak you out too much and gradually work up to more engaging formats.

Step 5: Timing Your Posts

You don’t have to post daily, but consistency is key. Three to five times a week works well. Use a scheduler to automate your posts.

Action Item: Decide on a posting schedule that works for you. Use tools to help automate and schedule your posts, and adjust based on engagement analytics.

Step 6: Making a Plan

You've got to be intentional with your LinkedIn activity. Outline why you are doing this work and make it measurable.

Action Item: Set objectives for your LinkedIn work, whether it’s the number of posts or new connections per week. Track your progress and adjust as needed.

Think About Your Audience

Approximately 4% of LinkedIn users post regularly, which means there’s a huge, untapped audience. Even if engagement stats don’t immediately reflect your efforts, remember that people are watching, and consistency will pay off.

To Recap:

  1. Optimize your profile to speak to your ideal client.

  2. Engage daily with industry content.

  3. Start posting your own content.

  4. Use a mix of content formats.

  5. Be consistent with your posting schedule.

  6. Create a measurable plan for your LinkedIn activities.
