How a Thrift Store Mic and a Rebel Brand Built a Top Revenue Podcast

I wasn't famous and I don't have ex-Google or Yale pedigree. So when I decided to launch Revenue Remix Podcast as a marketing arm for my practice, people did not line up to be interviewed. And not even my mom listened (retired pre-k educator she has no clue what I do.)

If you're new here or have ever thought of starting your own podcast, I document the journey every 6 months or so, check out these two posts that go through the early, messy stages.

I last documented this journey in May, and recent months have been all about the show coming into its own.

What Really Happened

  • I have more than 75 episodes published!

  • Guests reach out to me now

  • Guests have introduced other guests

  • I have had to (politely) decline guest who weren't a fit

  • I've added panels focused on the most vexing GTM challenges

  • Boardy helps me meet potential collaborators

  • RIP thrift store mic, it gave its all, but I had to spring for a professional one

But the sprinkles on the cupcake? Feedspot named the show on their Top Revenue Podcasts of 2025 list. I didn't pitch them, I didn't even know I was listed. Honestly found it while I was updating podcast research in NotebookLM. A big surprise!

Feedspot's Top Revenue Podcasts of 2025

And a n important success signal for an indie show this this. We feature niche industries, emerging or expanding brands, underrepresented founders. We tell gritty tales from the trenches of unsexy work in B2B SaaS and fintech. And we don't pull punches.

And this mention is proof that those stories matter, and not just to me.

Could not have happened at a better time, I've got much more planned for 2026.

If I had a Do-Over

I always end behind the scenes posts with lessons learned along the way.

  1. I would add press kits much earlier. Although Gen AI capabilities just now got to the point where I can do them well without a heavy lift. But giving people suggested copy they can use to promote has been a game changer. No one likes a blank screen.

  2. The GTM panels. I wish I had 20 more of them. They are so much fun and deliver a ton of value to the audience.

  3. I would add Boardy sooner, a higher "hit" rate than even LinkedIn outreach.

  4. Does this count? I would send a note to 2024 me and tell her that if she builds it people will come. In 18 months.

You're my people now.

If you've been on the show, I hate to tell you, you're one of my people now. Most guests, we end up working together in some way or another. A return to the show, refer a friend who deserves to be featured, work on a client project together.

I am big on partner-led growth and trust is an invaluable commodity, now more than ever. Stay tined. Or better yet, sign up for updates (you never know what this algo lets you see!)

BTW, this isn't a brag post, that's not how I roll. This is behind the scenes peek for anyone curious. And a no fluff overview for anyone thinking they might want to start a podcast.

Don't, it's hard AF. Guest on mine.

Until next time,

Summer
